STRESS PREVENTION
PROJECT (STOP)
About
It is recorded that the rate of suicide is 0.6 per 100,000 population (STAR Newspaper, 2018). According to a study conducted by the Malaysian Psychiatric Association, suicide rates in Malaysia has increased by 60% since the 1960s (STAR Newspaper, 2018). In addition to that, World Health Organisation statistics revealed that one of the top causes of death worldwide among youth aged 15 to 29 years old is suicide. This alarming trend has raised public concerns in Malaysia that prevention should take place to avoid from anymore rise in its rate. There are many possible possible causes that could lead to suicidal thoughts. Among them could possibly from untreated stress over a long period of time which later lead to the depression. Hence, it is believed that by developing and conducting appropriate prevention programs at the schools would help to reduce and prevent suicide cases that caused by stress in Malaysia.
